Ayalew Tefferi MD
Professor, Division of Hematology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MinnesotaDr. Ayalew Tefferi is Barbara Woodward Lips Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He received his hematology training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, before joining the staff in 1989. He is internationally known for his clinical expertise, teaching skills (inducted to the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine Hall of Fame) and research contributions in the field of myeloproliferative neoplasms. His academic achievements have been copious with over 1,000 publications and is currently a physician author for the MPN content in UpToDate. He was a recipient of the 2016 Henry M. Stratton Medal for Clinical/Translational Science by the American Society of Hematology. He has devoted his career to the study of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and other myeloid malignancies. Dr. Tefferi is best known for his groundbreaking work in defining the pathogenesis and prognostic features of myeloproliferative neoplasms, as well as testing novel treatments. His expertise in the field is well recognized, and he has been a key faculty member of many national board review courses, including those sponsored by Harvard Medical School, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and George Washington University. Dr. Tefferi serves as editor in chief for Blood Cancer Journal and Associate editor of American Journal of Hematology and Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
