Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology; Director, Johns Hopkins Encephalitis Center, Division of Neuroimmunology and Neuroinfectious Diseases, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MarylandArun Venkatesan, M.D., Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, in the Department of Neurology, Division of Neuroimmunology and Neuroinfectious Diseases. As Director of the Johns Hopkins Encephalitis Center, he oversees clinical activities and research, and has developed a multidisciplinary program devoted to delineating pathogenesis and optimizing diagnosis and management of infectious and autoimmune encephalitis. His laboratory research focuses on defining mechanisms of central nervous system injury in the setting of infection and neuroinflammation, with a goal towards developing protective and regenerative strategies. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund, and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Encephalitis Society UK.
