Member (Professor), Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WashingtonAnne McTiernan, MD, PhD is a Member (Professor) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Schools of Public Health and Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. Her research focuses on disease prevention through weight control, physical activity, and chemoprevention. She is a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine, the Obesity Society, and the American College of Epidemiology. She has led multiple randomized controlled trials testing weight loss, exercise, medications, and supplements. She was Principal Investigator of the NCI funded Seattle Translational Research on Energetics and Cancer, and led a group of over 25 scientists focused on obesity and cancer etiology and prognosis. Dr. McTiernan has published over 350 scientific manuscripts, edited two academic volumes, and a book for the lay public (Breast Fitness: An Optimal Exercise and Health Plan for Reducing Your Risk of Breast Cancer. St. Martin’s Press, New York. October 2000). She has served on national and international health advisory boards and working groups including the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the American Cancer Society, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee, the World Cancer Research Fund Continuous Update Project Expert Panel, the American Association for Cancer Research Prevention Committee, and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Advisory Panel on Clinical Trials.
