Ankit Shah, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Shah is interested in enhancing our understanding of the determinants of type 2 diabetes hyperglycemia and identifying novel therapeutic targets for diabetes and related metabolic disorders. During his postdoctoral research fellowship, Dr. Shah studied weight independent mechanisms of diabetes remission after gastric bypass surgery with an emphasis on the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1. His current clinical and translational research focuses on substrate utilization in hepatic gluconeogenesis using isotope tracer administration and mass spectrometry analysis. Dr. Shah received his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed his internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
